New Developments

Today, Riley was 14lbs, 10oz. He's developing so fast; it's amazing to watch. Here are some of the things he's done this week. He is holding his rattles much better. You can tell he wonders where that noise is coming from when he shakes his arms though. He does bring them to his mouth a lot. Last time we saw the pediatrician, he was telling us how babies use their mouths like adults use their hands - to feel textures and shapes. Here's a picture of Riley working on getting the rattle into his mouth. He does get it into his mouth, but I thought this picture was cute:

Riley has a Baby Einstein toy that makes music and shows a bunch of lights when you tap a button. Scott worked with Riley for a little while showing him how to make it work. In no time, Riley figured out that the button makes it work and would maneuver his fist or hand to the button whenever it stopped. He's really interested in this toy. A week ago, he would barely even look at it.

Yesterday, Scott had Riley on his lap leaning against his legs (which were propped up on our coffee table). Scott was watching TV and looked down at Riley for a second. Riley had pulled himself forward, and was sitting on Scott's lap, balancing himself. Probably a fluke, but he did it several times. Here's a picture of that:

This isn't a developmental thing, but I thought it was cute. Yesterday, I showed Riley a big picture of his daddy at 6 months. Riley kept smiling and smiling and reaching his hand out to that baby. Then he started laughing, and he laughed for quite a while. It was so funny.
